Measurement of empathy among health professionals during Syrian crisis using the Syrian empathy scale

Abstract Background Health professionals should have certain degree of empathy to eliminate the pain and suffering their patients. There is a need design scale, which can assess among health relevant community culture. Therefore, this study was undertaken measure Syrian students professions using newly designed Empathy Scale that during crisis. Methods A cross-sectional observational undertaken. total 214 participants (118 males 96 females) responded SES from Medical ( n = 62), Dental 152). They were 59 undergraduates, 116 postgraduates 39 general practitioners. The as tool includes 20 items in 7-point Likert-type scale with overall score ranges 140. Group comparisons scores conducted t -test analysis variance (ANOVA). factor performed. Bartlett’s test sphericity KMO sampling adequacy also determined. Cronbach’s alpha calculated. Results significant difference found between females mean score. ANOVA showed dentists higher than medical doctors no difference. undergraduates significantly Findings indicated (KMO 0.824 > 0.7) value (1255.65, df 190, P- value< 0.001) proved meaningful acceptable. results varimax rotation five main factors retained.
